Confidence & Self-Determination relates to Educational Success

The Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) assessed over 500, 000 students, aged 15, across 74 countries and released the information in a study titled The role of parents, teachers, and pupils in IQ test scores: Correlates of the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) from 74 countries.

'...Analyses showed six variables that were significant predictors of average scores, accounting for 24 % of the total variance: maternal and paternal education, students’ academic confidence in reading, school motivation, and self-determination.' The large scale, significant study is helping to reveal the pieces of the puzzle that support conditions for academic achievement.

We think many of the pieces identified in this study are the pieces often lacking for students growing up in financial hardship as identified in studies produced by the Smith Family & their partners like Material Deprivation and Social Exclusion Among Young Australians: A child-focused approach.

Our activities focus on self-determination, confidence, skills building and motivation in all aspects of life including school with connectivity to like minded students and mentors.
